    Axis conversion to 6.5 PRC

Ok just as the title says, I have an Axis in a Oryx chassis (AICS mags) and was wondering what bolt head I would need to use for the conversion plus any other parts (barrel obviously) ill need to complete the project.

You'll need a magnum bolt head. What is the original caliber?

For sure you will need a bolt head for a magnum-size cartridge head. There have been reports of Savage part #106190 working without modification, but I used #103960 with some slight modifications in a few different magnum projects (left handed equivalents would be #106660 and 103963 respectively). Here is the method to my madness.

The prc like the wsm calibers were made on a large shank barrel . Some wsm calibers were made on small shank. Savage ended that some speculate the barrel was too thin in chamber area,
The short action magnum bolt head can be ordered from pacific tool and gauge . I think I paid like 65$ no bolt modifications necessary . Mine was a 243 axis originally . Now its a 7 mm rem mag .

Thanks kingdom, I was having a hard time finding the bolt head. I'll try Pacific.

This is the correct answer for both the Axis and the 110 Short actions. Make certain the lug length is 7/16.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

So if going from 6.5 creed to 6.5 prc is a new barrel needed? or just need the chamber reamed?
Besides the obvious bolt face change and magazine change

Yes, the barrel can simply be reamed. Likely would be very little set back, if any.
