Southeast Nebraska. I called Savage and I must say they offered me something I didn't expect. They said if I shipped the rifle to them they would install a new barrel for $125. This is going above and beyond the call of duty. I really didn't expect anything like that but I would like to know why the barrel eroded so badly. Savage guy mentioned this and that but then I told him of the other rifle that had a similar amount of rounds through it and eroded much less, .070" for the Savage and .008" for the other 223. Same loads, same cleaning procedure, roughly same number of rounds. The gunsmith I talked to thought it seemed way out of what it should be, told me a 223 should go 8-10000 rounds. I think he was off a long ways with that statement but I think they should last at least 3000 with excellent accuracy, provided you use good judgment with not heating the barrel.
Is gas really $4.50 there? It is $3.249 locally. I look for it go up soon though.
