Savage 1899, 26” Octagon barrel, crescent butt

Here’s a combination I particularly like: octagon barrel, 26”; tang sight; crescent butt; Rocky Mountain front sight. This one is in .30-30.

Very cool, have yet to see one with a 26in myself, but 99's around my area are far and few between.

I really like the 26” barrel on the Savage 1899 and the Winchester 1894 rifles.

And here’s the factory letter for this rifle.

And no barrel length on that letter ? Now I'm confused... Is Cody filling in 26" when it's not in the ledger, or not? If not, then some entries have 26"? I don't think I've seen any early ledger pages with 26" logged.

    Interesting.

Simmons Hardware was a big distributor for Savage.
