Old Savage 110 in newer stock?

I've got an older Savage 110 long action in .30-06 (I bought it new back in 2002-ish). I was looking to replace the stock on it but I've run against a lot of information saying that the older "staggerfeed" designs don't work with the newer stocks. On the other hand that seems to be related to screw spacing and from what I can tell all the long actions have maintained the same screw spacing whereas its the short-actions that have varied over the years.

So - long story short - does anyone know if I can take a take-off polymer stock from a new production LONG ACTION 110, drop my older 110 action into it (with perhaps a little inletting), and then use the newer detachable magazines?

    Thanks for any assistance!

To the best of my knowledge, All long actions (not counting the old intermediate actions of the 70s/80s era) use the 5.0625" spacing. Assuming that you are using stocks intended for a top release action, then if memory serves you can use either a centerfeed or a staggerfeed action interchangeably if inletting for a dbm from a blind mag stock. I think (key word there) that for blind mag interchange you can put a CF mag in a SF stock but it requires some shimming to keep the mag in place, and you can put a SF action and mag in a CF stock but in some cases it requires some material to removed from the front of the mag well area in the stock.

Now if you are wanting to put your top release action in a newer bottom release stock, then I am not too sure. I am sure you would need to inlet the stock for the top release lever, but beyond that I do not know. I have not yet owned a bottom release rifle so no first hand knowledge there. Hopefully one of my knowledgeable Barrel Nut Brothers will chime in with that info.

If you need a replacement synthetic stock from the SF era for your action just PM, I may be able to help.

Yes, Long Actions are all the same spacing. As Boots mentioned, 5.0625” spacing.

As for Stagger or Center Feed, either one will fit in a Center feed Stock. You will need to remove the mag box from the Stagger Feed Actions is all. Once the mag box is removed, the two Actions are identical in sizing.

EDIT: Sorry, I over simplified. Some modification is required, but it’s easily doable & many have done it.

    +1.

Did a couple like that. Shimmed the CF and it worked but found I liked the stagger feed better.

No worries sir, I am always glad to get confirmation on something I say. Being away from here for several years, not reading/chatting about shooting daily, and not up to date on the newer models etc just has me hoping I'm still correct when I speak.
