    Rechambering 6.5CM to 6.5 PRC

Just wanting to make sure I'm not missing anything -

I am thinking of having my 6.5 CM barrel rechambered to 6.5 PRC. This is on a short action (3.00" box). I know I will need to swap bolt faces. I don't plan on loading any ammo longer than 2.950"

What am I missing? Any issues with having a 6.5 PRC on a small shank?

    Thanks!

No problem. It will be fine in a Small Shank. May need to mess with the internal mag feeding. Maybe not.

What are they charging you to re-chamber? Unless it is very cheap I'd probably just pick up another barrel chambered in prc. 6.5CM ammo is considerably cheaper and more available- so the ability to go back to it when you are not needing the additional speed could come in handy.

Anyone know where to get a bolt face other than PTG?
Is there a Savage factory bolt face that can be used?

I'd imagine a factory 300wsm bolt head would work.

I would agree on a magnum bolt head. Rim is .532, correct?

    This one will work. https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/1353540C

It’s for a Long Action, so if using it in a Short Action it will need to be modified. This link shows the difference in length of the shank. https://www.savageshooters.com/conte...Configurations

Thanks for all the feedback. I haven't talked to anyone yet about doing the work. It's a Proof Research carbon fiber barrel off a Savage Ultralight. Like the barrel and I have another in .308 to serve as my "ammo shortage" rifle, and I hand load, so I'm not too worried about losing the 6.5 CM.

If anyone can suggest someone to send the barrel to for the rechambering, I'd love to hear about them. Thanks!
