    Help bolt troubles

So got a donor .243 axis and bought the baffle and .223 bolt face .I can not get the bolt to install. I have stripped it so no no firing pin so I can headspace the barrel.is the lip on the baffle suppose to be wider than the bolt head. I may just be trying
    to reinstall it wrong?

So I believe I have a baffle for a savage 110. So I’m converting an axis .243 to a .17 remington do I need a different bolt baffle than the one that came on the .243 bolt? I’ve purchased the .223 bolt face and a Shilen barrel and head space gauge and 1 223 mag. Beside the baffle question what else will be needed?

Baffle should fit I would think unless it is machined differently on this specific one. The 223 bolt baffle is just used to shorten up the bolt throw with the shorter magazine, however you can use the original one from your factory 243 setup. If it works you can most certainly run it, you will just have the longer bolt throw which does not hurt a thing.

Compare your original baffle to your 223 type baffle, I am questioning machining difference, like maybe you just got one on the high end of the tolerances or more that slipped thru QC.
I have an Axis and multiple 10/110 types I will compare just to be safe but the Axis and 10/110 types should interchange as far as baffles are concerned.

The Axis front bolt baffle is different from the 110. The Axis Action is the same length Action no matter Long or Short cartridge. The LA or SA bolt throw is decided by the baffle. However, the Axis does not use the extra length 223 style baffle found in the 110. Use your factory Axis baffle.

Here is the Axis front baffle. See the two sides are different. That portion is flipped to control Long or Short Action bolt throw.
