    Rechambering 30-06

I've been interested in rechambering my 111 30-06. I was thinking about going to 338 lapua. I found a site where I can get it rebarreled to 338 lm, and from what I read online, I can just change out the bolt head. Im new to all of this, but this sounds entirely way to easy. Anybody out there with knowledge, would you mind explaining what all is required and what I will need and some possible calibers I can rechamber to. I was planing on replacing my barrel anyways and I got about a grand to spend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll let other, more knowledgeable people chime in, but I'm guessing the response you will get is that you should skip the Lapua and do an 338 edge instead. Very similar ballistics on the 300 RUM case. The Lapua is difficult in a 110. The edge is done regularly.

The 338 lapua is borderline on the 110 savage platform and from what I understand you will have problems.

A 338 RUM or EDGE would be better.

A 338/375 ruger might be a good option.

I decided against the lapua mag. To dang expensive, which I dont think my wife will be to happy about. I was planning on getting a barrel chambered in a different cartridge, I was wondering what else needs to be done after that and if I would be able to go to magnum or not.

.338-06 only needs a barrel change, .338-375 Ruger needs a barrel and bolt head. The .338-06 is excellent and the .338-375 Ruger is as good as a magnum and fits in a .30-06 chambered rifle. Why such powerhouse
    cartridges? I am curious.

u can wear out ur eyes and the search feature researching the big 338 conversions. i went w the rum, but started w a rum action so i could have a repeater w minimal effort, and no mods to the action. check out the post down the page a bit, sinman is workin on a new cartridge that will fit in the standard length long action....btw, FYI the savage rum actions have a longer magbox and cutout than ur 110
