Which rifle to convert to 220 Swift?

I have a savage 10FP Tactical in 223 and a Savage 110FP Tactical in 30-06. One of them is going to become a 220 Swift. I'm thinking of a fluted varmint barrel, 24 inches, and 1/12 or 1/14 twist.

The 110 already has the right size bolt head. Will the follower in the 30-06 work for the 220 Swift?

With the 10FP I know I will have to switch out the bolt head, and I'm betting I have to rework the magazine box.

Anyone had any experience in this switch?

A few people keep telling me to go 22-250, but I don't reload that cartridge and I'm not in the mood to start something new.

I understand that people want what they want- and a complete stranger telling them otherwise probably isn't going to change their mind....

But I'd be in the camp of people saying just go 22-250.

If you already reload (and if you don't then you really want to go 22-250) then it's not starting something new... it's buying a set of $40 dies and getting to work. The 22-250 is also easier to reload than the swift and brass much more available-- in normal times- all bets are off for what things are doing right now.

The Swift has a rim that can cause more issues with feeding... not that the 22-250 doesn't have it's own issues when you try to run a single stack magazine with more than 5 or 6 rounds.

.220 Swift is awesome! Faster then a .22-250 in stock trim with sane pressures. The .22-250AI can out run a .220 swift AI, again with sane pressures. Both of mine are on long actions. Easier to seat bullets long. No messing around with a bolthead change if you want the .30 cal back. Had a lot of Winchester brass split on second loading, so it would not be my first choice. Other brands 10+ reloads. I single feed, so not sure how much hassle a .30-06 mag will be. Much closer the .223!
    .223 Rem AI, .22-250 AI, .220 Swift AI .243 Win AI, .6mm Rem AI, .257 Rob AI, .25-06 AI, 6.5x300wsm .30-06 AI, .270 STW, 7mm STW, 28 nosler, .416 Taylor

I think you’ll be fine with 110. The 220 is only about an 1/8” shorter than 308. And many, many people have run 308 in a long action with ZERO problems, including Savage itself. If anything, I’m thinking ya might have more trouble in the 10, being it’s in 223.
