Savage 99 with C2 CP mark on stock

Hey guys - new to the forum. We have a gun we took in and are trying to figure out some info on it. It's a 1913 Savage 99 TD in 303 Savage. On the right side of the buttstock (just under the top tang of the receiver) it is stamped (pressed into the wood) C2 above CP. Does anyone know if this has any significance relating to this firearm? Or is this just some random marking on an old gun?

    Thanks in advance

    Rob F.

Maybe.. maybe not. Might be a law enforcement organization stamp, might be a ranch stamp, could even be a evidence stamp after being seized.

Best bet is to letter it from Cody. Any way you can post a picture and serial number?
