300 savage 99 130 grn

Curious if anyone uses 130 grain spire pts in their 300 savage 99's
and what kind of accuracy you get ?
Would be a deer, speed goat, coyote round.

Never seen them in my area. I don’t reload. All I’ve seen were 150-180 in my area with 165 and 180 being most commonly seen on the shelves.

I have quite a few reloading books, and currently use 150 grn spire points in the 300.
Just looking at a lighter round for my daughter, boys, and the coyotes and speed goats.

I also shoot 150 grn bullets in my 300 Savage. From what I see on the interweb, you should be fine, even down to 110 grn. It makes sense, since comparable 30s (308 & 30-06) are known for their tolerance for a wide range of bullet weights.

I'd consider sending an email off to Hodgdon and ask if their reduced loads with H4895 are okay for the 300 Savage cartridge. Lee manual lists a max load of 40gr for 150gr jacketed, so the reduced load would be 24gr of H4895. With a 150gr, it'd feel like shooting a 30-30.

I can't imagine it wouldn't work, Hodgdon just don't list loads for 300 Savage any more. Really not very bright of them since they list 250-3000, and there's probably 50 Savage 99's in 300 Savage for every one in 250-3000.

300 Savage is much more available as factory loads. I think one reason for this is that it’s still quite popular in countries where 30-06 and 308 are banned. Plus, 250-3000 is more of a varmint and target cartridge, where shooters are more apt to fiddle. I’ve been saving my 300 Savage brass for years, but I doubt I’ll ever reload it. Hornady Superperformance works well, and I can buy it if I need it.

The Hodgdonreloading dot com site lists 300 Savage loads for 130 grain bullets as well as five other weights. I've been using a reduced load of IMR4895 with 130s for quite a while now in my 99 since I can't handle recoil anymore. Works great, very accurate and low recoil.

My 1940 300 sav shoots 125 and 130gr bullets as good as 150s. The Barns 130 ttsx shoot great at 100 yards but accuracy falls off big time after 200. The 125 Hornady and nosler shoot good at 300 yards.
