    110 Elite Precision 223

    Hello All.

I fired about 50 or less Federal head stamp 223 rounds in my 110 Elite Precision which I found out were really 556 rounds.

From what I understand the Elite Precision was designed around the standard 223 cartridge not the 556 round.

Could I have caused damage to my rifle?

    Appreciate your thoughts.

    Thank you

    Thank you Dave!

I was really concerned about the added pressures of the 556.

I can sleep well tonight :)

    Regards,
    Mike

The Federal head stamp 5.56 is fine to shoot. I bet you didn’t have one even a bit sticky I the chamber, did you? Now, the Lake City & other NATO head stamp 5.56 “Green Tips”, while not recommended, I’ve shot TONS of these in 223 (NOT 5.56 or Wylde) chambered ARs, Mini-14s & such. With the WORST being one that would stick in the chamber here & there.

Your Savage is a MODERN STEEL using rifle & while nicer than many other Savages, is still a mass produced rifle with factory loose chamber specs. It’s not a CUSTOM Target rifle with a barrel using ultra tight specs & a .001” head spacing.-COMLETELY different animal.

Now, I’m not saying to purposely go get a bunch of NATO stamped Green Tips & have at it. Just that your Federal is fine to shoot as long as you didn’t see any pressure signs. I.E., sticky chamber, flattened primers, Bulged cases, KaBoom causing Rifle to blow up in prices on ground, and very likely sending sharp shrapnel pieces now lodged in various places throughout your torso, face & such. If you haven’t seen any of these signs, the Federal is no worse to shoot than any other ammo loaded by someone else.
