    Accustock recoil lug

New barrel threads are 1.0610 and lug ID is 1.0590. Barrel threads in the action fine but the lig obviously won't go over the threads. I'm assuming I just grind the inside until I get enough clearance?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I would buy a new recoil lug from the barrel manufacturer .
No matter where you go , there you are !

Yeah, unless you have a way to ops the hole concentrically & exacting, your better of getting the correct fit lug.

Barrel is a BSF carbon prefit. They don't list and doubt they do recoil lugs. I suppose I can take it to a gunsmith to get it precision ground. I've seen and have used precision regular lugs buy haven't seen anyone do a precision "accu-lug".

I think that sounds like a good idea. If it were only a few Thous’, I’d say just use rolled sandpaper on a dowel. But this is over .020”. Any machine shop will be able to get you squared away.

Almost all recoil lugs are bored to fit the factory savage barrel thread diameter of 1.055". More than likely, wrapping some 220 roll sandpaper around the threads, with a good squeeze on the sandpaper and a few twists of the wrist you will see the major thread diameter reduce in diameter relatively quickly. Take it slow and make sure that the recoil lug has some room(just a smidge) to move on back and forth without binding. Clean your threads well before mating them up.

This will not affect the thread "fit". The pitch diameter controls that. Savage barrels are .007 smaller on the major diameter than nominal. This keeps you from having an issue with the mating parts 'thread valley". In this case it would be the major diameter of the actions internal thread. It is very close to 1.062" . Having the male thread major diameter close to that can be an issue.

    Good luck

That’s actually a really good idea. I’ve done that with screws & washers countless times. Good call Robin!

    This is just me.
If I didn't have access to a mill, I would use a brake cylinder hone and go slowly to get just enough to fit over the threads.

Thanks for all the great help. I ended up using the Dremel on low and let the rotation of the tool move around the ID of the lug. I made about 10 passes then would check and after the third round it was good.

Used the sandpaper on the dowl to clean and polish it up and it was good to go. Finished the install and now can't wait to shoot it.

Always greatly appreciate the sage advice from the good folks here. Thanks a ton!!

Seriously. (Head shaking in hand) A Dremel is NOT a friend to precision!

    Robin, it’s SavageSmiffin’, btw.
