    My New Love

Inbound from Idaho. 1951ish Savage 99E in .30-30, kinda scarce in that caliber. PAX

That is a beautiful rifle, but it has me confused? They made an early 99E from 1922 to 1934, in 30-30. Then they came out with the 99E, economy model in 1960 to 1984. It was not offered in 30-30. Yours has the pressed checkering of the late 60's on. No pressed checkering in the 50's. One of the online serial lookups doesn't have data after a certain point. If your rifle is after that, it just generically says, your rifle was made after 1951. I can't tell, does it have a tang safety or a lever safety? Tang safety's were made after 1960, E's were not checkered, they were the economy model. Could you give the serial with the last two digits XX'd out.

Did some research for ya. The double diamond pressed checkering on an E is style 4 and style 5. No border around style 4. Made 1966 to 1974. If it is in 30-30, it's been rebarreled. Most likely built as a 300 Savage. Butt stock was cut straight for the recoil pad. Should have a slightly curved butt plate. If it is a 300 Savage, it's got a bit more omph than a 30-30. Make sure what it is before you stuff a 30-30 in it.

As stated already, the second edition model E didn’t come in 30-30. That cal was gone by the time the second edition E models came out.
