99 base screws

Recently acquired a 99 in 358 win.
It came with aluminum weaver bases and screws from the titanic.
I have a Redfield one piece base and rings, but can not find the base screws?
You know, one of thoose things you will find after you replace it.
Anyway, I believe these are 6-48 thread screws, but, does anyone know the length needed?
The rear of the base is thicker, than the front.
I have, and will if need be, cut screws down, but prefer to get it right the 1st time.
