    7mm-08 Twist Rate

Just looked at my rifle (110 Storm 7mm-08) and see Savage has it listed at 1:8 twist.....but all other rifles of this caliber are 1:9 or 1:10.

Does anyone know if the 1:8 listing for the 110 Storm is correct?

    Thanks!

Take a cleaning rod with a proper size brush attached.
Remove the bolt as if to clean the gun and insert the rod part way into the barrel.
Use a sharpie to scribe a straight line on top of the rod about 12 inches long.
Also put a mark on the line exactly where it enters the rear of the action.
Then push the rod into the barrel until it makes a full revolution and the line you scribed on the rod is again in the up position.
Put another mark on the line again exactly where it enters the action.
Pust the rod all the way through before pulling it back through and removing it.
Measure the distance between the 2 marks and that is your twist.

Savage recognized the faster twist rates to work with much longer and higher BC bullets
that were coming out. If your throat will let you, the longer bullets with the proper twist and
speed. works well. Check on JBM for their twist rate calculator.
