I found an old Savage. Trying to learn more.

Hi everyone. I was cleaning out my father-in-law‘s house and ran across an old Savage rifle in a basement closet. It doesn’t have any model number or serial number on it. Just a patent date on the barrel of 1893. I can’t seem to find any information about it so I was hoping that someone here would know something. I don’t know if this is something special, or just an old gun. I don’t know anything about antique long guns.

Edit: I just noticed that the barrel says it's a "303", if that helps anything.

That's Awesome! Thanks for the info and the great link. I knew someone would know something. :)

I just looked up the Model 99 and it looks JUST like this rifle but the picture says that this rifle also looks like a model 1895 or an model 1899. Any idea how to tell the difference? Is there a mark or a stamp I should be looking for? How does one tell how old it is? Other than the 1893 on the barrel I don't see any markings but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

Amazing! I found the serial number and thanks to your link I now know that it was made in 1904! How cool is that? It's in amazing shape. The blueing is beautiful. The wood is glossy and unscratched. Looks like it's hardly ever been fired. Now the hard question. What's something like this worth? Is it rare or are there a bunch of them out there floating around? I'm going to have to decide what to do with it now.
