Not "proving" anything. Just the inconvenient truth.
As I read it, the OP wanted a "walkabout" rifle with the same point blank range, killing power and weight as a 280 AI

If he's willing to lug a full size, long action bolt gun, a used 26" stainless older 700 in 7mm Remmag is a better buy than any Savage 280 AI. Recoil is not an issue when hunting and, of course, the Big Green 7 can be handloaded down to 7mm TCU levels if you wish.

If as he implies, weight and "handiness" are core needs, the SIG and the Kimber are probably the best choices.

The only Savage coming close is the ultra-light that does not come in 280 AI and is longer OAL.

The Fury, as all SIG products, is a great item. Those who think otherwise have never seen/handles/shot one.

Hmm, still a pound heavier and over a foot longer than the SIG with no better ballistics.

Don't you mean a pound lighter than the Sig? The Sig is listed with 6.5lb weight. The Ultralite is 5.85 in .280AI. Why would it be a foot longer? 22" barrel on the Savage 16" on the Sig? To me that's only 6" difference. They are close enough in price to be competitive.

I don't disagree that the Sig might be a better rifle, but, in what way? I would bet resell value is better.

The Kimber is an 18" barrel and lighter than both, but, quite a bit more expensive and is only avail in 6.5CM, 7-08 and 308.

The rifle I bought but have never seen or shot is the only option. There is no other option.

    All rifles except the 280AI

    Sig cross recall

The actions are the same. I have owned quite a few. I have a lot of knowledge on the action. I have three carbon fiber wrapped barrels. The are a vast improvement over the factory CS or SS. I can fix my browning A5. Laugh it up funny boy.

    1. so you own none now.
    2. so you don't own a Browning patent savage.
    3. you don't own and have no 280 AI
    and finally:
    4. you have never seen a SIG (except in photos) never handled or shot one (or probably a Kimber Adirondack as well)

As for "packing/walk about rifles" very little of that done from a pirogue (been there done that)

Such a font of knowledge could only be found on the internet !

My oh my, more SJW warriors who never had to stand up for themselves.

I presented the facts, they have not been refuted only whined about.

    Best of luck.

    Decision made

The winner. High Country in ackley. Figured with the fluted barrel and bolt that it would only be a little heavier than the ultra lite. And I have an old 110 20" in 30-06 in case I ever feel like this ackley will be too heavy.

You were wrong that the ultralite came in a 280AI and you were wrong that the sig was a pound lighter than the Savage Ultralite, the ultralite is actually lighter. admit that you were wrong.

I'm a savage guy. I like that I can rebarrel it myself and I think they put out a good product.
