gunshack SAVAGE BOLT HEAD KIT won't work

I bought Savage bolt head kit and 223 bolt head. I found the detent ball is 3.94mm and it won't fit. I checked my 6.5 CM bolt detent ball, that's 3.15mm. See pictures.

The bore for the extractor detent measures 3.81mm or .150". Most people use a 9/64"(.140") ball when upgrading the detent. The OEM is a .125 ball. At least the ones I have measured. Apparently Gun Shack messed up. I would give them a call first.

You bought the kit for improved extraction, I would not settle for the factory one. I have some 9/64ths if Gun Shack will not make it right.

Did you send them a picture? I don't understand if they don't care. We can fix that.

Local bicycle shop, plastic bag, caliper to measure for the size you need, pocket magnet and a couple of $$ will get you what you need. Balls used for bike axle bearings.

You can buy 100 steel balls as they're called on Amazon for cheap. The 9/64" one that Robinhood suggested is the best size to use to center the extractor, however it's been my experience that if you're having ejection issues such as the spent cartridge dropping off the bolt head instead of ejecting, the issue may be the extractor itself. I cured a chronic ejection issue by buying several extractors from Savage and cherry picking the one that reached farthest towards the cartridge. I was only a few thou further but it made all the difference.

I contacted them too. If they never tried to contact you, I will not be suggesting them anymore. You have to have a good product and stand behind it.

I really didn't mind sending you a couple but I didn't ever see an address posted or PMed.

Let us know how it goes.

    Charlie and savageshooters.com friends,

I am very sorry that we missed responding to your emails. We are a very small online operation and during these times run a very busy retail brick and mortar gun store. We have had very limited staff, especially recently when my wife and I were out due to a family emergency. We have been receiving hundreds of emails daily and our staff has been working as hard possible to respond while still tending to the customers in our store. I would ask that anyone that doesn't get a response via email, to please give a phone call.

We buy all of our Savage parts directly from Savage, so I'm not sure why the detent ball was not the right size. We have taken of a measurement sample of the detent balls in our inventory and and found that all tested were .125. We are always happy to replace or refund any issues with what we sell.

Charlie, again I am sorry and we are more than happy to make it right.

    Regards,

    Lance Skok

Lance, Thanks for responding. I sent you the link so I appreciate the response.

The correct ball size for the factory detent is .125 The upgraded extractor kits have been known to be 9/64 or .140. Somehow one of your customers(Chariephoo) Recieved one that he measured .155.
