How can one buy a new Savage bolt?

I'm rebarreling my 12BR to a magnum caliber, the .25WSSM, that uses the 0.532" case-rim size.. I didn't know before yesterday that 'all' the 110-series actions including the 12 use the 'same'-length bolt.. Rather than asking a friend to replace the bolthead (and switch the extractor, ejector, firingpin, etc.), I thought I could buy a new complete bolt asssembly.. I called a few weeks ago and the parts dept. said they would NOT sell me a new bolt assembly.. After learning the 'all-the-same' factoid mentioned above, I've decided I want one as close-looking as my original, and that turns into the 110 Apex Storm XP, which is available in several .532"-magnum calibers.

Anyone have an 'in' with Savage or know how to buy one of these?

How come you don’t want to just replace the bolt head?

If your set on replacing the whole bolt, check on eBay. But like "Nontypical" said "why don't you replace the bolt head"?

You can buy the parts to make one from Gun Shack-

    https://www.gunshack.com/savage-parts

Midway, Brownells, and PTG are also places to find parts.

I got one from Numrich. Changing the bolt head back and forth just adds another variable. And, the cost of the parts is 3/4 the cost of a complete bolt. I believe in KISS.

Isn’t the 25 WSSM based off a 300 WSM? Would this work?

    Savage bolt

That bolt advertised at Numrich is a LONG action bolt. Wont work in a short action.

Indeed.. I want a complete bolt to replace mine so that I'll have two.. I'm too old and fumble-fingered to dis- and reassemble tiny parts in boltheads.. Will call them about this one.

Midway has SA bolt assemblies (non-magnum)

Midway also has complete Savage SA bolt assemblies (without ejectors) in stock. However, the only one configured for short magnums is a left-hand version (kind of ironic).

Midway also have LA bolt assemblies with magnum bolt heads. I guess it depends on which are easier to find: the correct bolt heads or baffles.

One of the problems with the people telling you to just change the bolt head on your short action is that the Savage Short Action Magnum Bolt head is .125" longer than the standard or 223 bolt head, meaning that you will need to compress the firing pin spring an extra .125" to achieve the correct firing pin protrusion. You think a Savage has a heavy bolt lift wait until you compress the spring another .125".

Thanks to Sharpshooter(Fred Moreo) for creating the article and the site owner Jim baker for publishing it on this site, you have clear information on this topic.

So the solution to the OP's issue is:
Purchase a complete SA Mag bolt from Midway or other place
Purchase a PT&G SA Magnum Bolt Head Machined to the same length as a standard Bolt Head.
Or swap in a Savage SA Magnum bolt head and buy the .125 Longer firing pin assembly.
If you are a machinist there is one or two other options. PM if you need that.

It helps to have been there done that before you offer Savagesmith advice. LOL

Great article and link, Robinhood. Always appreciate your expertise and willingness to share.
Banning a gun will not solve what is a mental health crisis inflamed by incendiary rhetoric on social and television media. The first amendment in this case is less precious and more likely the causal factor than the second amendment.

Thanks Texas10. I am hoping we don't get another post in a month asking where the Ejector goes for a Control Round Feed Bolt Head.
