Loading a batch of Berger 55 gn for .223 today.

Running a batch of 250 rnds of .223 today using Berger 55 gn flat base varmint bullets over 25 gn of IMR-8208 set off with BR-4 primers. Matchmaster is dropping loads of powder within .02 gn of the target load in match mode. Whatta Hobby!

Both the Berger 55g #22410 flat base and Berger 52 gr #22408 flat base bullets shoot great in both of my .223 1:9 twist bolt actions.
They even shoot great in my .223 Les Baer 1:8 twist semi-auto.

Don't be afraid to try the Sierra 52 gr #1410 SMKs or the 53 gr #1400 FB SMKs. They also shoot very accurately.

They all seem to like fast powders - I use H335, and N133 mostly - with light bullets.
I've even shot CFE223 which is a slower powder and got good results.
The individual barrels have slight preferences among them, but they all produce small groups.

You're right, it is a great hobby!

I have a pretty good supply of the Sierra 52 gn #1410s left from years ago. Been using up some 40 gn Hornady V-max for the halibut. Have a few K of those on the shelf that I use for 5.7 x 28 and they do pretty decent in the .223 when you run them up around 3500 fps. Still really like the performance of the Berger 55 fbhp the best of all. Never a dull moment. Last 50 for today waiting for me to finish up. I like taking a break after each 50 range box.

Out this morning and shot 30 rnds at 100 yds. Shot off my 3 legged bench off Harris bipod. Using my latest load. 55 gn flat base Berger match varimint over 25 gn of IMR-8208. Range flags were all over the place today. Should be better groups once I get shooting prone for the season. 3 10 rnd groups for today. Always seems to be a flyer to mess things up.

    Pretty good.

I am all too familiar with fliers. I almost always get one, especially when I am working on a very small group. I get sloppy, I rush a shot, jerk, breathe, etc, etc. Really, really frustrating.
