Savage Model 34, according to the interweb experts.
Hi. Does anyone know what Savage model would be a match for the subject Sears/J C Higgins .22 above. I have had the rifle since I was 10 years old (now mid 60's). The stock was cut down for me when I was young and I am looking for a replacement stock and butt plate. My research has lead me to believe it is a clone of a Savage but it could be Marlin. Closest model I have found was a Savage Model 40 .22 rimfire at a Cabelas. My rifle looks like the one in the attached old auction https://www.gunauction.com/buy/14827835 except for the black stock nose repair. Thanks for any help.

Appreciate the info.
Numrich has stocks. Savage/Springfield/Stevens 34 Parts & Schematic | Gun Parts Corp.
Thanks. I did buy a stock from Numrich to be delivered in a couple days. We'll see how it fits. It was great to find out what model I was looking for. I spent a good bit of time looking at Numrich schematics trying to find a clone. Appreciate the help.
Numrich has a brand cross reference chart, just scroll down their home page under customer support.
Yes. Thanks. I looked at the Numrich cross reference for JC Higgins and Sears for model number 101.23 but it is not on the Numrich site. Cross referencing Sears under model 101 shows a lot of 101.XXX models but no 101.23. I did order 1126960A - Stock, Straight Comb, Press-Checkered Hardwood w/ Buttplate, .22 LR for a model 34 and received it yesterday. Stock does not fit so I have to return it. A little frustrating but interesting that it is so hard to find an exact match.
At least Numrich is good about returns!
So sorry to hear that it didn’t fit. Is it because:
A) The stock needed fitting
B) There are differences between Savage 34s
C) It’s not a Savage 34
D) Something else
Not A as holes were way off. Not just a fitting issue. Could be B but I do not know. Might not be a 34 but that relates to the original question about the 101.23 clone. And finally, it just might be something else. Wish I could see a cross reference table showing the 101.23. Appreciate the interest and help.
It's not a Savage 34, compare it to the posted schematics, the 34 had a tapered rear receiver plug with a thumb safety and the bolt stays completely in the receiver when the action is cycled. The one you posted a picture to is a version of the Savage Model 4, not sure of the version but it has the speed lock bolt without a cocking knob so I think a C or later. The schematic Numrich shows has early and late parts, part No 20 is the earlier cocking knob and yours has either part No 20A or No 14.

The Stevens 84 series uses the same action, Numrich uses the same schematic up to and including the 84E version - https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-man...rifles-sav/84e
Please accept my apologies for perpetuating misinformation from interweb experts.
Thanks again. I will look for a stock based on Sav22 info.
