    Storm Safety Kit

Daily Humor is gone so I’ll post here.

In prep for this week’s forecasted southern storms my brother asked his private academy attending 12 year old to look around the house for a radio.

    Kid responded “what’s a radio?”

There's a reason the Humor section is gone - namely because a select few felt the rules regarding inappropriate/offensive and/or politic humor didn't apply to them. It's removal shouldn't be interpreted as "post you jokes in off-topic" now - well, unless you want to get on my bad side that is.

Again, thank those who can't be bothered to abide by our simple rules. I have neither the time nor the inclination to sit around to babysit the forums 24/7. Back in February I posted up a request asking for volunteers to be moderators and I let it run for six weeks. Take a wild guess how many responded to it? One. One person. That pretty much told me everything I needed to know about the members of this forum. Everyone wants the benefits it affords to them, but heaven forbid they actually do anything to support or help manage it.

Here's just some numbers for you to consider...

    Total registered members: 25,622
Active Members (logged on within last 60 days): 1,787 (7%)
    # views on post asking for volunteers: 1,562 (87% of active)
Current # of paid members: 244 (0.9% of registered / 13.6% of active)

Over the course of a year I average spending roughly 4 hours per day working on site related stuff - everything from responding to Savage related questions via email, resetting passwords, looking up forgotten usernames, managing and maintaining the database and server, putting together articles, etc. That works out to 1,460 hours per year. In return for that, based on annual ad revenue and paid memberships minus hosting expenses, my gross hourly income for those 1,460 hours has barely been $5/hour these past couple years, and each year that figure gets lower and lower.

Simply put, from a financial perspective it's just not worth my time/effort any more, and if the majority of the community members aren't willing to lift a finger to support said community (as has been clearly shown by the lack of response to my request for volunteers) why should I keep it going?

For those reasons I think it's fairly safe to say the days of this forum's existence as we currently know it are quickly coming to an end. Change is definitely coming, but what that change will fully entail has yet to be determined at this point.

I completely missed the ask for moderators. But I have just recently ventured out of 110, reloading and classifieds.
