I know that many Savage 99 fans abhor the 99C, but back in the '80s in Connecticut, I collected a few of them, only one of them new, in 308 Win, which I took back to the Westfield, MA factory for minor work back in '89. The others are chambered in 22-250 Rem, 243 Win, 7mm-08 Rem, and 284 Win, the last-named of which was my mountain rifle in Germany for hunting chamois in the Bavarian Alps, using a handload with the Nosler 140 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip. I also bought three others, used, in 308 Win, and had them rebarreled to respectively 260 Rem, 338 Fed, and 358 Win. I bought a load of new-in-packing Savage factory magazines marked for 243 and 308, and attempts at cycling 338 Fed and 358 Win factory ammo show some difficulty with magazine lips, extractor, ejector, and feed rail in the rebarreled 308s, but the 260 Rem works fine from the 243/308 magazines. I would be very grateful for any information on gunsmiths who could alter these magazines to feed 338 Fed and 358 Win dependably.
Best regards!
