    $100 110 build!

Well not really but it is a cheap build/ Special thanks to GaCop that made it all happen.
It started with a 270 barrel for $60 and a trade for a single shot action for a magazine action, even trade! Then I bought a factory stock from Numerich for $38 $54shipped. Had to buy a barrel nut $25 and some sandpaper $10 or so.

The stok was sold as partially finished so that is what you get! My finger is pointing to a big divot. note the pencil marks.
Before the chatter about how not pretty this is it's a cheap build!!!! Spent most of Saturday sanding, more pics coming

An iron may raise that dent. Cover it with a cloth and steam it like a shirt. The damp heat swells wood fibers and it may just pop out. Doesn't work on a scratch or a gouge though.

    My favorite kind of projects,
Do it yourself, improve with what you got,, and source locally whenever possible.
That's what gave me the "Savage bug" to begin with.

Did that with my brothers 110 several years ago including hand pointing the checkering. Came out nice.

Nice choice with the tru oil. Dont skimp on the inside cause it needs protection from moisture too. I've used spray poly and several other wood finishes in the past but hand rubbed tru oil with lots of coats is easily my favorite.
Looks like you've gotta lot of love invested now, If you're gonna bed it you might should have bedded before all the refinishing just to keep from making a mess later.

A tip I picked up from one I did several years ago is that white line spacers for the butt pad, and grip cap too if you have one, can be made from a white plastic bucket.
Just use the butt pad to do the outline on white plastic from a bucket and then finish to fit and sandwich it between the butt pad and stock or under the grip cap.
Sure beats paying $8.50-$13 + shipping if you want one LOL 100 Straight Stock Spacer 1/8 Polymer White (midwayusa.com)

Good idea jeep. I have never shot a 270 so I don't know what to expect for recoil. I have a grip cap I can steal from another stock. I was just researching recoil pads. length of pull is 14" now. don't want much more than that I have a slip on for range day, Going to shoot it before I bed it, if it groups well I wont bed it probably, I'm very lazy lol
