    Savage Arms Axis ll

My nephew found a brand new Savage Axis ll xp in .308win from 2012 still in the box. The box is still taped up. He offered it to me for free but he works hard on his business and holds down a regular job and I do not want to short his business any money. How much is this gun worth? I am going to give him the money.
    Thanks.
    John

    For me? $200.00
    For some others? $350.00

The Axis is not a "Bad Rifle" but it does not compare to the 110 in my opinion for several reasons.
I would personally grab a 110 or Ruger American before I grabbed an Axis. Used rifles are not always a bad deal either. If you simply want to help your nephew unload that rifle that is one thing but if you are looking for a good rifle to hunt or modify there are better options....in my humble opinion.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

$200.00 it is. And I have a first gen 110 my dad gave me. He bought it at monkey Wards in Albuquerque in 1961 I think.

I like my little Axis II. It is a .223 with heavy barrel and it is more accurate than I can shoot. I did put it in a Boyd's stock to make it look better :)

Monkey Wards LOL. I haven't heard that one in a very long time. So many good stores have gone away that had a sporting goods dept like, K-Mart, Yellow Front, Longs Drugs, Sears etc.

I put the Pro Varmint on mine but would probably do the AT One if doing it over. I shoot from bench or bipod and don't hunt.

Yellow Front was our 'outdoors' store. They also had the fiber barrels with Mausers, Springfields and M1 carbines for $30 ea. :)

We used to get probably 2/3 of our stuff other than food at Monkey wards. Had a very nice store in our little town years ago.

We lived in the east mountains for 15 years, Tijeras.

I grew up in Glendale, AZ, before it was 'attached' to Phoenix (farm land between the town and city). Yellow Front was next to the Rexall corner drug store and the Woolworth 5 and dime. Right on the town square, along with the JC Penny, and around the corner from Stanley Hardware.

There are some great pictures inside City Hall of cotton farmers from long ago. My ex-wife's grandmother came to AZ from TX about 1910 in a covered wagon and they lived in tents for a while picking cotton and whatever else they could find.

    Pretty cool.

My grandfather emigrated from what is now Montenegro (Austro-Hungarian empire) to the US in 1903. Worked in copper mines and then owned a small diner in Globe. My mom was born there. Dad's parents moved from KS in 1927. Grandfather was a high school teacher at Glendale HS.
