    Old savage rifle

    Hi All -

Looking for a magazine for a savage sporter .22 rifle! Now here is the problem this rifle is old like before savage put model types on the rifles! This rifle has a last patent date of November 20, 1917 followed by Savage sporter, .22 long rifle! As I said there is nomodel type! the serial number is pre 100,000, 887XX. I got the rifle without a magazine so I have no clue as to what it looks like or how many rounds it held. So other than the serial number there is not much else to identify it by!

Now I have checked with Savage, old rifle information is not available!!!!! Tried Savages recomendations nothing going on there either! Any body got any ideas how to find a magazine to fit this rifle?

    Thanks
    Mike - ???

Hi Thanks for the reply! I will see if I can figure out how to get pictures on this site! In the mean time, no this is a bolt action typical magazine thru the trigger guard! The safety is a rolling ring on one side says fire then you push it down and it uncovers the word safe, it rotates around the furthest most portion of the receiver. Not a lever or a tube feed!

    Thanks

Rounded on the back of the bolt.....it's a model 23A when you find a mag, should make it easier now.

    Thanks for all the help!

This firearm is a Savage Sporter 23A! Which has a different magazine than the 23AA! Seems that there are several new versions but the orginial one has a knob on the bottom to help extract the magazine and holds 5 rounds! It is indeed rounded on the front side and has a pinched metal tab centered on the back (trigger side) of the magazine that engages with the magazine release center slot! I can see that from the design this is going to be a bear to disengage which is why it most likely was not included with the gun, probably got thrown in the drink! There is a re-manufactured magazine with 10 rounds available for around $60.00!

I want to thank everyone that replied as the search will continue now that the rifle has been identified!

    Thanks
    Mike -

Here is a picture of the magazine you need if it helps. It was also used in the original model 19.
