    Savage 99 Value

I'm looking to purchase a 1920's era 99. The serial # is 289562 and the lever code is M. Apparently, this is a takedown version. The firearm is in fairly good shape. The metal has no rust. The wood a little wear, and one tiny crack. What's the ballpark on a gun like this? The guy wants $375 for it, what do you think? By the way, the cal. is .300 Sav., if that matters.

If it were me, I buy it assuming there were no issues.

Straight stock or pistol grip? My guess would be a model G and for that price I'd grab it, the condition sounds like it's still there. They usually run you $5-600 up here.

The mark you found is an inspectors mark not a date code, they didn't start date coding till 1949.
