The Palma and a 1 degree throat is how mine was done. I don't know if the 1 degree delta difference has an impact or not.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

there has been a ton of real world testing done with bench rest quality shooters and rifles, and essentialy everyone is still shooting 1.5

so the "rifle" showed up today. stock, action, trigger, recoil lug and bbl nut.
this will not be a nut bbl,,,so that is excess,,,ss finish.
the previous owner was shooting some sort of competition and the action has been bedded to the alum chassis/stock.
an excellent job but i will have to remove all ahead of the recoil lug. my bbl is a little larger in dia.
but the stock is much better than the 10 cabelas special that had an alum channel in it..much stiffer
now the ACTION. a nice heavy beast with a wasted poorly fitted bolt...flops all over the place.

    SO BIG QUESTION..
has anyone sent an action out to be sbn coated ?( several names for the process)( sbn, qpq, melonite, nitriding
i would like to do the bbl bolt head and action.
concerned about the heat, but bbls are done all the time.
    anyone ??
    thanks

You should contact Savage about nitriding the action.
The temperatures involved (it is a heat treatment) will change the metallurgy- only they will know whether it can be done without adversely affecting it.
The custom M700 clones are nitrided by the manufacturers for that reason.

That's also the reason it's much more common to go with DLC on receivers.
