Another new Savage came home today-

    Yup,

Picked up my daughter's lefty weather warrior in 243 today. Ordered it from Jim at Northland.

This is one new gun that my wife actually new about!

    ;D ;D ;D

    Here's a couple pictures...

She's got a Javelina tag for November, then after that, it gets a Sinman barrel in 257 Roberts for deer. If and when she draws an elk tag, then she'll get a .308 win barrel added to it.

I will probably post up the 243 barrel for sale when the Roberts barrel gets screwed in.

Great rifle and lucky daughter, it should serve her very well.

common - go with the 250 savage since it is a savage! other than that, great plan!

(maybe a laminate stock as you move up in recoil?)

    Eric,

I hear you, but I have excuses...

I already have dies and brass for 257 Roberts (weak, I know), and I'm looking for a little extra insurance for mule deer and 120 gr bullets...

But you do make a good point. If it was a whitetail only gun....

I was also trying very hard to keep the weight down on the rifle (she's 12), so I probably won't do a laminate stock. It does have a rather spongy soft recoil pad on it already.

I was a little concerned about magazine length and going to the Roberts case, but after sitting one in the magazine, I've got tons of room for the Roberts and 120's.

I think the the 250ai could take the 257 though and maybe not just the coolness but probably speed too

Well if I was worried about the velocity, I could always have gone with the AI Roberts. I have dies in brass for that one too, (40 degree shoulder).

    ;D

But I am still trying to keep recoil to an absolute minimum, she's never shot a center fire rifle before. A week from Sunday will be the first time for her.

This Sunday I'm taking her Squirrel hunting (with her lefty Savage 22 bolt gun). She's getting pretty good with that one, them tree rats better watch out!

Glad to see that you liked the LH Model 16 that we got in for your daughter. I did see that the box was stamped "NewPad". I have been pretty impressed with the new Savage PAD System Rifles. Savage has made some comments on the New "PAD" Recoil Pad as being a serious reduction in fely recoil. This should be ideal for a young shooter.
