Barrel options for a 350 Legend build?

Looking at putting together a 350 Legend on an small shank SF for Iowa whitetail and general mucking about- considering barrel options.

I like the idea of using a .358 barrel for bullet selection but will probably stick with the .355 for simplicity but not 100% decided. Anyone running a .358?

Seems like 1:16 is the common twist but thinking just a bit faster might help with some heavies if I feel like trying casting and/or subs, maybe a 1:10?

Thinking around 18" for maneuverability and don't see much to gain going longer.

Unfortunately neither Criterion or Shilen make prefits for the Legend.

    Any suggestions re barrel maker?

    Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

    Thanks, Matt.

My opinion only.. i want to build one also but I am going to wait a while and see if there becomes any agreement on slug diameter.. right now there just doesn't seem to be a agreeded upon stamdard but cmmg and faxon both are pretty good tubes and faxon was what I was looking at when I decided I better wait

Thanks for the reply, didn't know Faxon/CMMG made savage prefits.

Oh I don't think they do, I was thinking AR for some reason. Maybe check shilen and criterion for savage?

    Just ordered a Mcgowen prefit.

Went 18", .355 bore, 1:14 twist with 5/8x24 muzzle threads.

    And now we wait.

Just curious, why did you select 1:14 twist rate?

Will be trying some heavy (long) bullets and hoped the faster twist would help keep things stable without over spinning the standard weight pills.

I definitely want to build one but im going to wait another year and see if any good info comes out about ideal twist/weight ratios and hopefully they will all settle on a standization on bore size.. i love 357mag, probably my favorite handgun round so I cant imagine not liking 350 legend

Why not get a Green Mountain blank and send it to Sharpshooter to chamber and thread? Is Green Mountian the only 9mm/0.355 rifle blanks available?

Green mountain is one of many companies that offer a 9mm blank and would certainly be a viable option.

Mcgowen offered all of the options I was looking for so it made sense to go with them on this build.

do you have your ammo or components yet?
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

I have a BCA upper in 350 legend which piqued the interest in this project so I have ammo/components for it. So far haven't found an ammo it doesn't like but have only handloaded Hornady 170gr pills which also shot well.

With the bolt gun I will be interested in loading a "generic" load for a go to and then working on casting/loading a subsonic round.

Rifle together and couldn't be happier with the McGowen barrel.

Did a very basic break in, shot a cple rounds, cleaned, repeated 3x then fired a few groups. Took it home and cleaned the barrel well, very minimal copper and it cleaned up fine.

Next trip to the range was sub moa at 100 with factory ammo, just starting to work up loads with 170gr Hornadys- hope to start casting soon.

    Thanks for all the replies

Not really, kind of done. It shoots factory ammo great, 170gr handloads great and 250gr cast subsonics great too. Used it to bag a couple of nice deer this year. No feed issues, easy to carry, easy to shoot, kind of boring
