    Angry Barrel threads for YHM comp/brake installation


    I have a precision Model 110 in .223 and want to install a comp/brake in order to add a Yankee Hill suppressor.
    YHM recommended the QD 1/2 × 28 thread.
    This unit will not thread on my barrel.

    Is this the correct brake or is another size required.

    Could be barrel threads are 9/16-24.. not uncommon on 223 and 5.56.

    Last I knew Savage was using the standard 1/2-28 for rimfires and 22cal centerfires, and 5/8-24 for everything else. That said, I seem to recall a few folks buying Savage's in .223 with threaded barrels a few years back only to find they were threaded 5/8-24.

    Also, the 9/16-24 thread size Ted mentioned is typically a left-hand thread rather than a right-hand thread used on the 1/2-28 and 5/8-24 threads.

    If you have access to some dial calipers or a 0-1"micrometer it would help.

    I'm a area 419 hellfire whore ever since I tried their breaks, if I ever decide to pay the dimes for suppressor liscense ill probably use theirs as well since the adapters I have on all my rifles fit their breaks and suppressors.. i was seriously amazed at the difference in precieved recoil they make. They make my 308s and 6.5 creedmoors feel like 223 rem and make my 5.56, grendels and ar7.62x39 feel like 22s

    Not usually as simple installing a can on a barrel that had the muzzle threaded at the factory.
    Tenon specs for cans are much more specific than that required for brakes, factory threads may not be Class 3 fit and the tenon may not be the correct length.

    Always check a factory threading job against the manufacturer's print to be sure it is withing tolerances, or have a smith/machinist chop off the factory threads and re-work to spec.
    A baffle strike is a pretty expensive lesson.
