Model 45 Sale Price

I bought a Model 45 in 300 Savage at auction yesterday. I found very little sale price data prior to bidding, so I thought I would share the details of my January 2022 purchase.

It has the schnabel stock with the side button mag release. The bluing is about 60% (Auctioneer’s estimate) and the stock has the original finish and only one significant fault (a gouge on the butt). The Lyman receiver sight is missing, and the open sight has been replaced with a nice Marbles folding leaf. The front sight has been replaced with a Redfield bead, but the bead has been knocked off. The receiver has been D&Td for a Weaver side mount. The bore is good, but dirty. The innards are schmutzy and varnishy, but I believe it will clean up nicely. The safety is stuck, but I believe that will respond to cleaning. The magazine is the after-factory four round with the typical wear.

The hammer price was $400. I paid $498.44 after buyer’s premium and sales tax. I thought this was about $50 too high. The catalog description didn’t mention the D&T, and you needed a sharp eye to spot it in the photo. It didn’t mention the locked up safety, either. For these reasons, I think the internet bidders were more aggressive than they should have been, but that’s conjecture.

ouch, but i have not been truly following them for quite a while. might be a good current price with only 6000 45s made. is the Lyman sight still there or that accounts for the drill and tap with no sight.

Nope, no Lyman. It’s going to get one, along with the Weaver.

It’s all taken down and gone through the ultrasonic cleaner. The bore has cleaned up nicely.
