Can be done with a barrel and bolt head change. You'll need a .473" bolt head. Iron sight can be installed by a gunsmith after the barrel is screwed on and headspaced.

Yep, a lot of .22-250s go through the classifieds, unfortunately I have not seen any .250-3000s for sale. Best bet is to contact one of our site sponsors to have a barrel made up. You will have to have it drilled and tapped for iron sites after it is headspaced on the gun though. If not, your sites could end up on the bottom.

Savage marketed half dozen proprietary chamberings between 1895 and 1925. The 250-3000 is one of them and is credited with being the first smokeless powder chambering too exceed 3000 fps muzzle velocity. Its best with the lighter bullets with the 100 grain being probably the best heavy weight bullet for this cartridge. Some will shoot heaver bullets but not very accurately. If you want heavier bullets then the 257 Roberts would be better or move on up to the 25-06 for top performance. I'm still experimenting too find a powder that my 250 Savage likes but so far nothing has been spectacular. Most have been around MOA to 2 MOA groupings. Maybe that's all the better one will get.

The change over is simple as others have pointed out. I got my 250 Savage Adams and Bennet barrel from Midway. They are a good source for barrels as are various sponsors of this site. You can find just about any chambering available from some barrel maker. E.R.Shaw made my 7x57 Mauser and 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser barrels.

i'll look up the 257 roberts, sounds like a good ideal.

reason i wanted a 250 savage , is i had one in a 99 lever action. it was stolen. and i miss it bad.

sill have a 99 in .308 M99F, rotary mag n' all love it, but that little .250 was sweet.
