    Model 111 in 270

Picked up the Model 111 at my LGS Wednesday for $375 OTD. Nice looking rifle with accu-trigger. Previous owner did not abuse it and from the looks of the bolt face it hasn't been shot that much though when I cleaned it, the bore was a copper mine. It has a bright blue finish and the usual "Tupperware" stock. Rifle is a dream to carry it's so light but, from the bench, it kicks as bad as my 450 Bushmaster does with 300 gr JHPs. Sighted it in yesterday at the club range using 140 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips over IMR4831SC. 57.4 grains yielded a 100 yard group of .770" and velocity averaged 2937 fps. It's definitely a keeper.

Congrats on the new 270, GaCop! Sounds like a nice rifle for a nice price.

I fully intend to take this one out to 200 and farther.

Everyone around here pretty much turn their nose up at Savages so I can get them at good prices. Normal Model 110 sans accu-trigger can be had for $250 OTD.

Shot it again Friday with 130 grain Hornady bullets over H4350. Shot like crap and had my mystified until I noticed the scope had slipped in the rings. Gotta get better rings and replace the cheap factory bases. The two piece bases won't allow me to bring the scope far enough back to shoot comfortably having to creep the stock a bit to see thru the scope. Barrel is till a copper mine! If it's anything like the 243 barrel that was on my Axis, it will be a copper mine for life! That one coppered up even after 300 rounds thru it.

Got in an extended Weaver base from Amazon yesterday and installed it using Weaver Steel rings. Now the scope sits far enough back that I don't have to creep the stock to see thru the scope. Back to load development.

My little Axis in .223 has 2700rounds through it and still collects copper. It will still shoot better than 1/2MOA too :)

WOW Charlie! Guess I'll learn to live with the 270 "copper mine". Takes two days of soaking with copper remover to get the barrel clean after 12 rounds of testing.
