New Owner of an old Savage

    Howdy everyone,

I just came into possession of a Savage 99 in .300 Sav, with a serial number indicating it was made in 1927. It's a bit of a project piece, the stock is cracked and had been repaired with what looks like pine at some point in the past, but according to the guy I got it from it's a shooter, so making a new stock will be a longer term project for me.

I'm a firearms enthusiast, although at the moment all I own is a couple of 12 gauges and the Savage 99. The Canadian government has recently started banning every semi-auto in 5.56 or 7.62 they can think of, so it's a good time to be between carbines. I'm hopeful the law will be overturned, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've been a soldier for most of my adult life, so I've got lots of experience with anything based on the M4 as well as heavy weapons up to a tank's main gun, although I assume most people won't have questions about those around here. I'm pretty new to lever actions, this is the first I've owned.

That is a great rifle & caliber. My brother acquired the same combination from our dad (who bought a Savage Axis .308)
