    350 legend

Is the legend boltface the same as 223 boltface? I have this extra action and have no need for a 223 bolt gun with my all the ars I have. What needs to be changed other than the barrel

According to Winchester, the 350 Legend rim diameter is the same as the 223 Rem, so your action with current bolt should be good to go.
However, case dimensions are sufficiently different that the 350 can't use the 223 magazine reliably (according to Winchester and members on this forum). So you will need a barrel and 350-compatible magazine. Also, tools needed to perform a barrel swap if you plan on doing it yourself. If you need it there is lots of info on how and how not to perform a barrel swap on this forum).

The 350 Legend case is just a straight walled 223 case. It should fit in the magazine fine, but you may need to modify the follower and magazine lips in order for the rounds to load properly.

Not quite right there cowboy. While the case head dia. is the same as a .223's, the .350 Legend's body is bigger in diameter at 0.390". The case OAL is also shorter at 1.710" compared to the .223's 1.760" length. Savage does use the same .223 Rem mag and follower for the .350 Legend, but as I and many others have found out this setup doesn't work the greatest due to the larger body diameter on the .350 Legend.

I guess what I was getting at is that the 350 legend case has a rebated rim and the 223 is rimless

The answer to your question is YES.. 5.56/223/300BLK/350 Legend all use the same bolt head. And yes it does have a rebated rim due to the case head being a bit larger than the 223 Rem cartridge that was stated by Admin earlier. Case head on 223 Is .3759 and 350 Legend is .390 This was done to prevent case head failure.. Hope this helps you out..

Has nothing to do with case head failure.....it had to be bigger at the back to create enough taper in the case to feed.

The barrel is all you should need .. The fact on the post earlier for case head being thicker may be for feeding but all places even the manufacturer of the 350 Legend states it was for extraction purposes. The reason I stated the way I did on extra thickness was (case head failure) I do plenty reloading and in researching reloading and resizing a 223/5.56 for 350Legend is not suggested due to 55,000 psi possibly causing case head failure .. Little extra info if you were thinking about that. Good luck with your project..
