Yup, just that simple. Mine works great, just had to add a block to back of the mag and move the spring forward. [308 mag.]
Have done a number of projects with the older Savage models never worked with an Axis before please forgive my ignorance while I bone up.
Is it possible to rebarrel an Axis 223 to a 450 BM?
Simple bolt head swap like the 110s?
Mag issues?
Any info appreciated.

Thanks!
LGS has a 223 Axis for a price that has my attention.
Long action bolt head or short action? Push feed?
Axis uses short action bolt head. That way the firing pin works . Its the way they set it up to use existing parts to keep production cost down . They are ez to get on pacific tool and Gage . You will need an the extractor and ejector spring and detent also . These items are inexpensive . Not sure if they will come with the bolt head . I made my axis to 7 mm rem mag . They are a versatile platform . All Savages are push feed as far as I know .
I guess I did not know that PTG made the magnum faces on the shorter bolt heads. Was yours a drop in replacement? One day I'd like to do a .450 Marlin.

They make like 9 styles for a short action. I also have a Mag for my Axis. Dropped right in!
Thanks!!
Savage made short action Magnum bolt heads also for the wsm family of cartridges . Just good luck finding one.
