Serial Numbers - Centerfire vs Rimfire

In Feb. 2017 J.Baker posted a sticky regarding the use of a letter prefix in the serial number of all Savage guns starting in 1969 . Sure enough , the 12 FV I got last year has a "N" prefix for the serial number . When filling out the rebate card for the B17 I just got , I noticed there were the same 7 figures in the serial number on the left side but they were all numbers - no letter . Does J.Baker's post apply only to centerfire ? Not really important because I'm enjoying the B17 regardless - just curious . Thanks

The rimfires are made at a different plant in Canada.
