    Re barrel Axis

Starting on my new build for the spring time 600 yd shoots.

I want to convert this 308 win into 6mm Creedmoor.

Looking at swapping out the barrel with a heavy profile barrel.

My concern at this time is the receiver lug. My model 12 with varmit barrel has the lug on the receiver.

The Axis is not attached. I will be using a Boyds AT-0ne stock and will want to bed the receiver into the stock.

What would be the best what to secure the lug to the receiver before bedding and to keep the bedding material from getting into the barrel threads?

If someone has done this I could use some pointers here.

    Thanks for you help.

When you get the barrel get a 110 style recoil lug. Change the stock to fit and bed it. At least that's what I would do.

    Not sure what you mean?

The barrel will not have a lug attached. the receiver on the Axis does not have a lug.

The lug is a loose piece from the receiver.

Is the 110 style recoil lug something I can buy from savage???

That precisely what he is talking about. Get yourself a small shank recoil lug for a regular savage 110 and use it on the axis. I know the axis action needs to be milled off "shortened" a bit in order to use that style lug. I can not remember right off the amount that has to be removed but someone will be chiming I here shortly that will know

Ok, I googled the part and found it easily.

Now I know exactly what he is talking about.

Didn't know it existed until now.

However do I need to mill off the part of the receiver to make it fit?

I looks like it should fit between the receiver and barrel nut and material will need to be taken off to fit between the receiver and barrel nut.

This might be out of my wheel house as I don't have access to a lathe.

If so are there other options?

Yes you have to mill the front of the receiver off to use the 110/10 style recoil lug. I haven't found to much of an issue with the recoil lug being mounted into the stock. If it was me I would order the Boyd's stock and have them install pillar beds before shipping. That should take care of your bedding needs and the recoil lug could remain in the stock.

If you do decide to bed the Boyds stock. I drip candle wax into areas like where you are talking about to avoid the problem with bedding material getting in places you don't want it.

    Nice trick.

On my last Boyds I used playdough to keep epoxy from getting into the bad areas.

    That worked too.

    Thanks for the tip.
