    Savage warranty?

Has anyone ever had to use savage warranty? I called them today about an issue on a new model 10 that I just bought. The bolt lug raceway is extremely rough and the bolt head even has gouges from it. The lady from savage warranty said I could send it in and they would look at it but she made it sound that if it still functioned fine it wasn't a warranty issue. I even went to a big box store today that had the same exact model and that one had a much better finish. Has anyone else experienced this or had to use savage warranty?

Interesting question. I have bought 7+ 12FVs over the past 2 years and the last one had the same thing you are experiencing. The finish in the raceway was noticeably wrinkled looking and the cycling was a lot tighter than the others, although I can't say the bolt was gouged from it. I took it as an opportunity to see if I could fix things up. Between a honing stone, lapping paste and a zillion bolt cycles I got it to an acceptable level of smoothness and the more I shoot it the better it will get.

But a 12FV with rebates was a sub $250 investment. If you paid big money for your rifle I would want it better from the factory. My gut feeling is that they will say its within tolerance, but who knows. If it's that bad send it back and be firm with them.

If you get creative with the warranty complaint like tell them you’re concerned metal is sluffing off and may get into the chamber they may decide it’s easier to send a new one than screw with this one.

Experience? Yes. Pleased? Yes. I have a Savage.223 with Target AccuTrigger. It was out of warranty. Trigger locked. I sent it in and they replaced the whole trigger housing at no cost to me other than shipping. I couldn't have been more pleased. Now, getting trigger springs out of them, with paying for the springs and shipping required more effort than it should have. Your picture just doesn't look like something they would ignore. Give it a shot, so to say.

Yes I've used them twice in the past year. The last on was a Model 12 LRH in 6.5x284 Norma. Issue was the rifle wouldn't group under 2" with any load heavier than 129gr. I told them I believed it was the muzzle brake. I sent the rifle, targets, and my load data. They replaced the muzzle brake with no improvement then replaced the whole barrel and muzzle brake. Now groups consistently under 1/2" at 200 yards with 147gr. Pill.
