The reason a 2 3/4 shell chambers OK is that chamber depth MIGHT accept FIRED shells of 2 3/4. (Measure the length of your UNFIRED 2 3/4 shells and you will see they are a good deal SHORTER than 2 3/4! Likewise, measure the length of your FIRED 2 3/4 shells, and you will see they are just shy of 2 3/4!)
Your friend is correct when he says, This was normal.
Chambers are NOT impossible to measure . . . .You just need the proper gage!
Actually, on a gun that old, Im thinking your chambers are NOT set up for 2 3/4!
