I've had this 1921 99 for years now. Last year I got the lightfoot adaptor to put a Nikon 3-9 scope on it. Nice package. Spent a year or so developing a load. I found the factory 180gr RN are a bear in it. I got a bunch of bullets and decided on the 125gr Speer TNT. It shoots good with 42gr imr4895 up to 100 yds around 1moa and not so much recoil. So Christmas day, I'm about to take a shower in the morning and I look out and see 2 deer grazing on the Azaleas in the garden on the far side of the drive, about 20 yards away. I put on my pants and a light jacket, get the 99 and hearing protectors, step out the front door and they've now moved out behind the garden, about 30-40 yds away, they are looking right at me through a leafless dogwood tree. Raise the 99, offhand and shoot right at one's head. It went down in an instant. Bullet went in and blew out the back of it's head. That's the first deer I've ever shot and I'm 76. I've shot a lot of ground hogs with my Sav 112J in 220S. I gave the deer to a guy that comes here and hunts, I don't care for deer meat but there are plenty around here. Those TNT are pretty impressive. Chrono has them at about 2700 mv. Pretty flat out to 100 yd for a head shot.

For years I shot high power service with the M1A1 Service rifle, that may have helped.
