311 Springs - when are they needed?

    Hi everyone,

I have seen posts that discuss the use of Wolf springs to address the fact that some 311 shotguns don't open (and stay open) all the way for loading/unloading. I guess that the Wolf springs are a bit more relaxed and therefore allow the action to stay open.

My question is whether replacing these springs will help a 311 action that seems to open TOO easily. When I break open my 311 (series H, probably circa 1985), it almost feels like the action falls open with minimal spring resistance and is stopped when metal hits metal.

All other parts function perfectly, with no stiffness or problems. I'm just wondering if a spring freshening would help for me as well. I really hate that metal-to-metal feeling! 8)

    Thanks,

    Marley

If everything is working A-Ok, don't mess with it! :-*

My 20 gauge 311 has been in pieces for over a year because I just gave up trying to get the hammers back into the receiver. The gunsmiths must have some special tools for that. I even tried forming special wood blocks and putting them in my vice and still got nowhere!
