    deer hunting w/ an Axis

I bought an Axis in .30-06 last season. I painted the stock, replaced the trigger spring, put a Leupold fixed 4x on it, and shot 4 or 5 different types/weights of ammo through it to find what it liked. First, almost half of the cheap boxes of ammo grouped under 1" at 100 yards. Core-Lokt was one of these brands; 150g, 165g, 180g, and 220g - they all grouped at 1" or better. This gun is crazy accurate. There was no 'breaking-in'.

I settled on the 220g b/c of the heavy woods and thickets I wind up in once rifle season opens in Tennessee. This week I took down a large buck, hitting right where I was aimed on a quick shot. Nothing about this is too unique - but to purchase a rifle for under $250 dollars this is this accurate, balanced, and size proportionally - kudos to Savage Arms.
