Case for 10 BA Stealth 6.5 Creedmoor.

Looks like I will be travelling out west soon. I am not artistically inclined, and manage to butcher case foam anytime I try to do it myself. Does anyone make a good precut airline safe foam insert? Or a full on custom case that you have been happy with? Thanks.

I use a Pelican and love it. Houses my built 10 very well. Cutting the foam was easy. And I only have ONE arm/hand to use, LOL! Seriously though, my outline cut in the foam certainly doesn’t look “laser precision” cut, but does the job. With that, the case itself is pert near indestructible! Very trusted being tossed around by airline folk!

I have a Boyd's case for mine, no foam cutting necessary. I think I could drive a truck over it and not hurt anything.

But it wasn't cheap either :)

My cheap Axis goes in a Plano case. It would not take a truck running over it, or even a few size 12 boots :)

My wife bought me a 5.11 rifle hard case for my Savage 10T-SR - she loves all things 5.11! It is very sturdy (and heavy) but has wheels and plenty of locking points for those oh-so-fun TSA locks. It has two layers of foam on the inside, not including the lid liner. I drew an outline in the foam of my rifle and the parts I wanted stored separately (the bolt, the magazines) and used a sharp utility knife with a new razor to cut out the outline in only the upper layer of foam. It took me about 30 minutes total (I went slow, trying different placements before marking because I didn't want to ruin the foam), including clean-up, and there will be clean-up. The trick is that you cannot just cut through the full 1.5-inch foam layer in the first cut. You have to work it in layers like a surgeon would. For me, that was usually three passes. You can use sharp scissors to square off the corners. Now, my rifle sits snug and secure and I don't worry about dings and scope damage like a soft case would be subject to. Pelicans are also crazy strong, I am definitely not knocking them.

Keep checking back, they go on sale often enough to make it worth your time.

I bought a Plano for around $115 from Amazon a couple years ago. Had wheels, and a handle on the opposite end and midship carrying handle. Uses four locks. Did not have to cut any of the foam for my scoped rifle to fit. These cases are heavy and heavier with your rifle in them. Get one with wheels.
