Savage 11 - how far should the spent case be ejected?

I recently bought a used Savage 11. It is detachable mag and bottom bolt release (newer model).

How far should a spent case be thrown when I lift the bolt and bring it back to eject the case?

The cases extract just fine but do not seem to be throwing out the case from the action.

    Any thoughts?

    Two question:

    1. What's the cartridge?
    2. How fast or forcefully are you working the bolt?

Some cartridges (like the 6.5 CM) are more susceptible to ejection issues due to case design and how it interacts with the action when being extracted. The speed at which you work the action can also play a role as additional momentum will be carried over to throw the case further. That's why an AR15 launches cases so far even though it uses the same plunger-type ejector, it's benefiting from the momentum of the lightning fast cycling of the bolt.

Far enough to be clear of the action when you chamber the next round.

You should also be able to eject partially and allow the round to be lifted away by hand without flying off onto the ground.

The M11 uses a plunger and small extractor so it's not designed to forcibly eject a cartridge; just tip the nose away from the breech.

It is a 6.5cm. I was not working the action real hard. I would say a lighter movement as I was getting used to the rifle.
