    Savage SA ORYX Chassis

Just got ORYX chassis, for my SA hinged floorplate barreled action,Mounted the front vent holes on action are 3/8" above top of chassis, the flat on top of rear tang is .110-.125 above chassis too,the end of tang is flush. Action IS Bottemed out in chassis. Top of ejection port is 1/4" above top of chassis. 1'st chassis i've ever had.Seen a few photos of other rifles, they did not look near as high, appreciate any info

The action sits more "on top" of the Oryx than "inside" of it. But the chassis is pretty compact in height compared to a standard stock as well. Having extra material to wrap around the receiver would just make it heavier. I do wish the barrel channel was a little tighter...as is you could put a sewer pipe in there. But the Oryx functions fabulously, you will not be disappointed. I just got my 2nd one and played around with it. Since the factory anodizing is a bit cheap I painted all the aluminum with Brownell's Alumahyde to give it a smoother finish. I also used Krylon Fusion to paint the plastic panels desert tan instead of paying $40 for a different set. It came out pretty good...

Made it to range between showers, ORYX, Savage SA, Criterion 26" LT Varmint 1-8" twist 6 creedmoor, shot 1 warm up shot, then shot .357 group with Peterson x 20 fired,Rem BR,w/43.8 IMR 4350,87 v-max, at 3305 fps, then shot 20 x fired Rem BR,40.9 H4350 105 RDF at 2.175 ogive .273 group.Just before it started raining again shot Lapua 11 x,40.9 H4350,105 Hornady Match hpbt at 2.140 ogive .261 group.Very happy w/ it.Need to get different rear bag have Protektor Mid ear bag and Custom BB bag, fought rear bag, they are too high, not much room between pistol grip and rear of chassis.Have DR bag i'm gonna try.Agree the ORYX anodizing leaves a lot to be desired,Interested to see how painted panels hold up

The KRG Bravo is the same way. Action sits on top. I am impressed that you shot a 20 round .357 group at 100 yrds.

    So the 20 x .273 and 11 x .261 groups didn't happen either?

Did not shoot 20 round group,Cases were 20 times fired Peterson SRP{ ,2X ,10X,20X } is my short hand for how many times cases have been reloaded and fired, groups were the sizes listed,Will try to post pictures next week.Shot steel plates today at 600,700,and 1000 yards,My rear Protektor bags are not high enough, fought them again today.Amazed at how well rifle is shooting w/ ORYX Chassis, know group will tighten up w/the right rear bag
