    Stevens 200 5.7x28mm build

Go ahead and answer this question: Why? Because no body builds one and I want one. I have Hornets, 22 Magnums, 17HMR, .223/5.56, etc. I have read all the arguments for and against but once I get an idea I have to follow through.
I have wanted to put this rifle together for a long time and have almost completed it. It started as a Stevens 200 7mm-08. Swapped parts: PTG 5.7x28mm bolt head, Shilen 16 inch 1/9 5.7x28mm barrel, SSS extractor. I am working on figuring a magazine out but no luck yet. Going to try modifying a Savage 340 22 Hornet magazine. Have not really shot it yet other than test firing to work out extraction and ejection.
Any ideas on the magazine is appreciated

I can't see your pic, although Savage made a model 25 "walking varminter" in 5.7x28. You might use a magazine from a M25 and modify as necessary

My understanding was that the 5.7x28mm Walking Varmiter was never actually made. I have never found one or seen one. I would have bought one if available.

There were actually a small number of the 25's made in 5.7x28 that were shipped, but then were recalled and cancelled. The "official" reason that I got was, "accuracy wasn't up to their standards". The "real" reason was problems feeding and ejecting.

I'm curious if the brass will eject without falling into the action? I have a wildcat based off a shortened .223 case that's only .010" shorter and there's no way in hell it will be a repeater. so in that regard why worry about a magazine?

I'd just remove the ejector, put a single shot follower in and have fun with your efficient little cartridge. mine has I'd assume a little more case capacity but has impressed me. I'm getting 3260 ft/sec with the 40 gr v-max using 13.5gr of lil gun and still have room to work the load up. from a 18" barrel no less. report is very mild.

It will extract and eject the brass after firing. It would not with the standard savage extractor. I installed a Sharp Shooters Supply enhanced extractor and it works fine now with the Savage ejector. Have not had time to mess with the magazine yet but with a little work I think it will function.

hmm I might have to buy one of those extractors and give it a try with my wildcat.

I am curious about the 5.7x28 project. Has anything else came about?

Might be awhile, Masonjar hasn't logged in since Mar 2018. Btw, anyone can check this by simply clicking on the user's name which takes you to their profile page that shows date joined and last activity date, in this case, 5:53pm March 19, 2018.

Was hoping maybe someone else had this project as well.... i have an AR-57 that runs the P90 mags, but was thinking of getting a bolt gun as well.
