My custom machined shoulder stock. (Pics)

*EDIT* Final pics in my last post.

I sourced a couple parts from my “already machined” Firebird Precision A-1 bench-rest stock, and started from scratch. I have the MDT TAC21 Chassis, which uses an adapter for AR style buffer tubes. The stock uses a standard gov. length buffer tube and an overall of 14.25” length of pull. But with the style of the Chassis & added adapter, the length of pull becomes irritatingly LONG! So the first part was to shorten the tube. In doing this, I had to machine a new aluminum “plug” for the stock leg to bolt to.

Next was designing a carrier plate for the overall design I wanted! And then cut a .250” thick plate of 2024 t345 billet to the desired overall shape. The pic is lining up for threaded holes to drill.

Carrier rough machined & mocked up.

Made a cheek riser from Kydex and is manually adjustable via spacers. Finished machined, painted and assembled. Need to pick up some some 10-32 round head screws for the cheek riser.

Much appreciated my friend. Machining/Fabrication is actually my true passion. Gunsmithing/building & Custom Knife-making are just “shoot offs” of my core focus. I was almost killed, 100% disabled & paralyzed in my left arm/hand in 2014...and while it CERTAINLY has slowed me WAAAYY down, hasn’t stopped me completely from doing what I love.

well, sometimes it does.....but not EVERY day! LOL!

Thank you sir. I also just picked up an Athlon scope shade. Now I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder....but the culmination of everything I’ve done has turned this into an incredible looking piece of hardware, IMHO. (Thank goodness it shoots as good as it looks, LOL!) It came together exactly as I wanted.
Here it is now, with the new pieces.

Oh I forgot. Here is the original stock.

And after some consideration, I decided to machine an adjustable end plate. Milling slots to allow side to side and cant. It’s a 1/2” plate and I’m going to machine some 1/2” spacers to start. So again it will be adjustable for length of pule, but via spacers.

Getting there! Finished milling slots and inletting so screw heads sit below surface. Cut out the basic shape and started grinding material off to match the shoulder stock profile. Unfortunately I do not have CNC, just my mill. So pretty much all of my Metal shaping other that straight milling, is done with my 2x72 Belt Grinder. And I need some belts!

    But its it’s getting there.

    What "Pule"?

    Nice Work David.

Machined a new shoulder plate adjustable side to side & for can’t. Can adjust LOP, but only manually via the standoffs.

I like the lines you created. What stock was that originally?

Thank you Robin. It started life as a Firebird Precision A1 Bench stock. (Pic on Post #9). I reused the buffer tube, although it was shortened and machined, and used the shoulder rest plate. The other parts I designed & made.

Thanks guys. It came out exactly as I wanted. I love the side to side and canting adjustability of the shoulder rest plate. So much more comfortable.
