    WTK: Savage M-112/12 production?

When did Savage introduce the Model 112/12 into production? I have a M-12 FV in .22-250 and it drives tacks. Have always wondered when Savage began producing it. Thanks in advance gentlemen.

The first Model 112 came out in the mid-late 1970's as the Model 112V (single-shot from 1975-78) and was replaced by the 112R (repeater from 1979-80). No other Model 112's were offered again until the 1990's.

In 1991 Savage introduced the 112FV as a blind magazine repeater with 26" heavy barrel, matte blued chrome-moly action and barrel and black synthetic stock.

    In 1992 they added a 112FVS Single-Shot version to the line-up.

In 1993 Savage added the 112BV and 112FVSS. The 112BV featured a brown laminate stock with more closed ambidextrous pistol grip with palm swell, and a higher comb. Finish was matte blued chrome-moly the same as the 112FV and FVS. The 112FVSS was identical to the 112FV with the exception that it came with a stainless steel barrel rather than a chrome-moly barrel.

The 12FV (and all two-digit short-action models) were introduced in 1998 when Savage started making short-action receivers again. Other than the addition of the AccuTrigger in 2003 and the change from staggered-feed to center-feed magazines that took place from 2006-2008 depending on cartridge, the 12FV has remained pretty much unchanged since it was introduced in 1998. It's always been Savage's budget minded, entry level varmint rifle with a basic synthetic stock and heavy non-fluted 26" barrel chrome-moly with a matte finish. Though not appearing in the catalog for a couple of years now, the 12FV is still in production as a "specialty" model offered to big-box retailers like Cabela's and Bass Pro.
